'Jesus' H. Christ!

I'm pretty surprised at all the negative messages I've gotten since The Huff Post published my article about Tim Tebow.

I've even had two friends block me on Facebook. lol.

I guess you either get it or ya don't. But, for those good, God-fearing Christians out there who think I hate all things Christian, Christmas, and Christ, let me surmise:

In a nutshell, I don't believe religion, of any kind, has any place on the sports field or anywhere else in public life. Religion belongs in a church or temple or mosque and that's where it should stay.

Whether someone's Jewish or Christian or Hindu has little bearing on their humanitarian qualities.

That comes from their upbringing and their own inherent sense of empathy. Why did some Germans help the Jews during the war while others looked the other way? I'm sure they both considered themselves "good Christians." For the record, I can't stand Jewish orthodox extremists, either. And I definitely don't believe if I eat bacon or drive a car on Saturday I will go to hell. Extremism, in any shape or form is dangerous to all free thinking individuals. Some friends of mine are gay and just adopted a baby. They have money and a beautiful, stable home. My friend's parents disowned him and will never see nor speak to their grandchild. Doesn't matter whether they're Christian or Jewish. They're just Assholes.

And, contrary to some of the emails, I don't hate Christians -or any group of people. That's stereotyping. What I hate is the fact that the overwhelming majority of right wing conservative Christians use the bible as a tool to force their beliefs on others in an attempt to exclude other human beings from the basic rights they're entitled to –under God, ironically - by quoting the bible.

To me, that is the exact opposite of a good Christian. If you truly believe Gay marriage is against God, don't do it. But don't try and stop someone else from living their life the way they want because you feel it offends God. That's called 'Intolerance' disguised as God's will. Thus, If you can't recognize or acknowledge the difference between a good Christian and an extreme one, God help you.
